Save Reticulated Giraffe (Somali Giraffe)


This is a project to protect the last remaining population of reticulated giraffe which is a unique species endemic to Northern Kenya. Its also called “Somali giraffe” simply because 80% of it’s distribution occurs in Somali inhabited areas of Kenya and Somalia. The species is listed as “Endangered” in the latest IUCN red list because it is primarily threatened by habitat loss and degradation, climate change and poaching. The organization is able to conduct education outreach and trainings through community engagement approaches and training of trainers. It also does restoration of reticulated giraffe habitats to stop further degradation of their habitats which contributes to decline in their population.
